I have been childminding since 2012, and have experience of bringing up my own daughters Elen (born in 2011) and Eirwyn (born in 2013). I previously worked as a secondary school Maths teacher for 5 years before I started my family, and my husband is currently a college lecturer working at a college on the Wirral. He is also registered as a childminder, helping out in the evenings, weekends, and holidays. He is also available if an emergency occurs. I run my childminding business from our family home in Holywell. My husband and I are both non-smokers and the only pets we have are goldfish which are housed in a 4ft fish tank and a mature friendly tabby cat called Annabella.
As a registered childminder I aim to provide a childminding service that allows boys and girls to learn and develop in a safe, secure, home-based environment. Play will be at the centre of your child’s learning and development, and a wide range of activities and experiences appropriate to the age and stage of development will be offered. We have a regular routine in the household that revolves around playtimes, rest times and meal times.
My husband and I are registered with the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) and are able to care for up to 6 children under the age of 8 years. There are occasions that we deviate from the National Minimum Standard 15.7 by having 4 children under the age of 5 years of age. This currently occurs on a Friday between the hours of 9am and 1:30pm.
I also offer out of school care for children over the age of eight. My service is open to all children and families and I may be able to care for children with additional needs. All children require a settling in period in order to adjust to new surroundings and routines. I will also request a four-week trial period on our contract, so if you, your child or I am not happy with the arrangement it can be terminated easily.
I have a secure back garden which is available for children to play in and a Council maintained play area situated opposite the house containing slide, swings, toddler equipment, basket ball hoop and room for ball games. Children will also be taken to the local playgroups, Ti â fi (Welsh language) groups, shops and library on a regular basis. My first language is English but I do use basic Welsh and Sign Language on a daily basis. I am able to drop off and pick up from Ysgol Gwenffrwd and St Winefride’s Catholic Primary School. I provide a range of activities including arts and crafts/junk modelling, storytelling, singing and musical instruments, role play, construction toys and jigsaws.
My service is available from 7am to 7pm and I will negotiate an individual contract for each child. Following my Complaints Policy, any complaints which I cannot resolve can be referred to:
Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales
